WHY WE NEED TO BE FRIENDS
Hey Everyone!
First time blogger here!
For the first blog from CLE Carpet Cleaning & More- I wanted to go over how important it is to clean regularly and why it gets overlooked so often.
There are a lot of folks out there with bad allergies. Allergies where medication is needed, hives develop, and worse. There are also much more minor allergies where we sniffle for a couple days when the grass or tree pollen is bad and it goes away after a good rain.
There is also that sore throat for a few weeks, sniffles in the morning, little headache and as the day goes on- it tends to get better and relieved… until the next morning when it happens again.
What could this be? Well- it could be your house… Think about it.. Pollen, dust, dander, hair(don’t even get me started on how dirty animals are- as I have 3) all get trapped in our house in the summer time. High heats and high humidity have EVERYONE stuck inside in the air-conditioning- blowing around air thats filled with our pets, our kids, our co-workers and ourselves. And we aren’t clean beings… WE SHED (as much as nobody likes to admit it).
Is it possible that maybe its all the particles in the air we are breathing that could be leading to our congestion and sore throats in the morning? Possibly.
How often do you change your bed sheets? I hope at least once a week?
How many times has a family member fallen asleep on the couch? When was the last time the couch was deep cleaned? Does the dog or cat lay on it? Did they go outside or walk in the liter box, then lay on the couch? I know… it’s GROSS, but true. And someone laid their head on that couch last night!
When we open the windows to let the beautiful natural air in and circulate out the old stale air- all should be good, right?! Unfortunately not…
There have been 2 Air Quality Advisories since June 4- Once for the Canadian Wildfire Smoke which left a hazy sun and smell in the air for days. All of that smoke particulate matter entered our homes when the windows or doors were opened with nothing you could do about it!
The second was July 28th for Elevated Ozone Levels. Elevated Ozone levels often come hand in hand with fine particulates in part because the source of the pollution is often the same- vehicle exhaust, wildfire smoke, Sahara Desert sand particles(yes- this is true!)
When fine particulates are in the air- we can breathe them in, causing harm to individuals who with higher risk- elderly, young, etc. What we don’t think about is that they have a weight. A size that is heavier than the air that suspends them. Which means- they will fall. They land on our couches, carpets, hardwood and shelves. We dust them, mop them and vacuum them. But are we doing it enough? Is fine particulate matter building up enough that the color of the couch or carpets actually change?
We see it every single day.
It’s not speculation that dust/pollen/dander are sitting on your couch currently. When someone sits down, a plume of dust can be registered with an air quality monitor searching for PM2.5/PM10. You can grab a flashlight and check air quality by seeing how many particles you can see with your naked eye. It’ll be more than you think!
Every time you sit down-something else gets up- dust doesn’t ask permission to spread out. Your nose knows first hand.
What are some tips to help you from ripping off your skin with how gross this blog seemed?
The IICRC recommends you vacuum once per week- per person or animal in the home. For my household- 3 people, 3 animals. 6x per week is how often I need to vacuum.
How often should I vacuum my couch and recliners? Depends on how often they are used, but if they are used daily, the same rule applies as above.
How often should I be having my carpets and couches deep cleaned? At minimum, once per year- but pets, children and messy husbands can increase the need clean more often. Couches that are used daily for families should be cleaned twice per year- especially if you fall asleep on your couch as much as I do!
Deep cleaning isn’t just about looks- it’s about the health of your family and keeping the inside of your home cleaner than the outside world!
